Zurück zu Tomatopedia Zurück zu Bilddiagnose velvet blotch disease Velvet spot disease, also known as Cladosporium disease, is a common fungal disease that affects tomato plants. It can cause significant damage to the plants and drastically reduce the yield of the tomato crop. Causes of Velvet Spot Disease Velvet blotch is caused by the fungus Cladosporium fulvum. This fungus thrives particularly well in warm and humid environments, making it a common threat in greenhouses and during the humid summer months. The spores of the fungus spread through wind, water and also through direct contact with infected plants. The fungus enters the leaves through the stomata and begins to multiply there. High humidity and dense planting promote the spread of the disease because they encourage the formation of water droplets on the leaves, which in turn promote the germination of the fungal spores. Symptoms of Velvet Spot Disease The first signs of infection are pale green to yellowish spots on the upper surface of the leaves. These spots may grow larger over time and turn into brown or olive green velvet spots, which give the disease its name. This velvety appearance is caused by the spore masses of the fungus on the underside of the leaves. In advanced stages of the disease, leaf necrosis (dying processes of plant tissue) can occur, in which the affected leaves die and fall off. This leaf loss weakens the plant considerably, as photosynthesis performance is reduced, which leads to a lower fruit yield. The fruits themselves can also show spots in severe cases. control strategies Controlling velvet blotch requires a comprehensive approach that includes both preventive measures and direct control methods: variety selection Growing resistant tomato varieties is one of the most effective methods of prevention. There are now many varieties that have been specifically bred to combat Cladosporium fulvum. Optimal climate Reducing the humidity in greenhouses through regular ventilation and the use of fans can inhibit the spread of the fungus. Care should also be taken to ensure that the plants are sufficiently spaced apart to ensure good air circulation. garden hygiene Removing and destroying infected leaves and plant debris is crucial to preventing the spread of the disease. Regularly cleaning gardening tools can also help prevent transmission of spores. fungicides The targeted use of fungicides can help control the spread of the disease. It is important to alternate fungicide use to prevent the fungus from developing resistance. However, before using chemical agents, an accurate diagnosis should always be made to ensure that it is actually velvet spot disease. crop rotation and site selection A frequent change of cultivation area and a diverse crop rotation can help to reduce the spore load in the soil. Tomatoes should not be grown in the same location for several years in a row. Velvet spot disease, also known as Cladosporium disease, is a common fungal disease that affects tomato plants. It can cause significant damage to the plants and drastically reduce the yield of the tomato crop. Zurück zu Tomatopedia Zurück zu Bilddiagnose
- Spinnmilbenbefall bei Tomaten erkennen | Tomaten! Vielfalt erleben
Back to overview Adventitious roots in tomatoes: meaning, formation and care Adventitious roots, also known as aerial roots, are roots that do not originate from the primary root system of a plant, but rather from other parts of the plant such as the stem, leaves, or even the flowers. In tomatoes, adventitious roots play a significant role in the plant's growth and health. Formation of Adventitious Roots Adventitious roots in tomatoes typically develop from the lower part of the stem, especially when this area comes into contact with soil or moisture. This often occurs during planting, when the stem is partially buried in the soil. The formation of these roots is influenced by a variety of factors: Moisture High humidity and frequent watering promote the development of adventitious roots. Soil coverage Mounding soil around the stem or mulching with organic material can stimulate the formation of adventitious roots. Injuries Damage to the stem, whether caused by insects or mechanical injury, can also trigger the growth of adventitious roots. Hormones Plant hormones like auxins play a crucial role in the formation of adventitious roots. Importance of Adventitious Roots Adventitious roots offer several benefits for tomato plants: Improved nutrient uptake The additional root system allows tomato plants to more efficiently absorb water and nutrients from the soil. Increased stability Adventitious roots help stabilize the plant, especially in tall-growing tomato varieties that are prone to tipping over. Disease resistance A dense root system can make the plant more resistant to soil-borne pathogens, as more root mass promotes healthier roots. Stress management During times of drought or nutrient deficiency, adventitious roots can help reduce stress for the plant. Care for Adventitious Roots To promote the formation and functionality of adventitious roots in tomatoes, gardeners should keep the following care tips in mind: Proper planting When planting tomato seedlings, bury the stem up to the first leaves in the soil to encourage the formation of adventitious roots. Regular mounding Throughout the growing season, regularly mound soil around the base of the stem to support the formation of new adventitious roots. Watering Consistent and adequate watering is crucial, as moisture encourages root development. Soil care Well-aerated and nutrient-rich soil supports the growth of adventitious roots. Compost and organic mulch can help achieve this. Disease control Regularly check for diseases and pests that could damage the stem, as this helps maintain the health of the adventitious roots. Adventitious roots are of great importance for tomato plants and offer a variety of advantages in terms of nutrient uptake, stability and disease resistance. Through targeted care measures, you can promote the formation and function of these special roots and thus improve the health and productivity of your tomato plants. Knowledge of the factors that promote the formation of adventitious roots and the implementation of appropriate care measures are therefore essential for successful tomato cultivation. Order seeds here The addition It's amazing how a simple passion for gardening can blossom the joy and pride in our hearts. On March 15, 2023, I started my little experiment - growing ten plants that would soon lead to a bountiful harvest of "Siberian Yellow Heart". What followed was an amazing gardening daydream that made my green thumb blossom even more. The starting line: March 15, 2023 On March 15th I began my adventure and planted ten small seeds of "Siberian Yellow Heart". Winter was fading, and I couldn't wait for the day when I could plant my delicate plants outdoors. The big move: May 10, 2023 It was May 10, 2023, when my ten little protégés finally moved out and moved into my garden paradise. The anticipation and expectations were high, but I was up for the challenge. The plants seemed to acclimatize quickly and grew quickly and strongly. The first fruits: June 13, 2023 June brought the first surprise: the first tender fruits of the "Siberian Yellow Heart" appeared! It was a real moment of triumph when I spotted the first small green tomatoes on the plants. The anticipation of the coming harvest grew with each passing day. The first ripe tomato: July 11, 2023 And then, on July 11th, came the highlight of my gardening year: the first ripe tomato! It was an uplifting moment when I harvested the juicy, golden yellow fruit. She was literally beaming on my hand. It was truly remarkable how early this variety ripened. The plant Foliage like from another world The breathtaking foliage of this special tomato variety is noticeable at first glance. The leaves are deep green and their shape is very reminiscent of the leaves of potato plants. But instead of sloping upward, these leaves grow downward, almost like curtains protecting the fruit beneath. This unusual leaf pattern gives the plant a distinctive look and makes it an eye-catcher in the garden. A narrow growth with a big impact The Siberian Yellow Heart is also characterized by its narrow growth. It grows upright and compact, making it an ideal choice for small gardens or growing in pots and containers. When grown as a single shoot, the plant can produce amazing yields. This is a great option for gardeners with limited space who still want to harvest high-quality tomatoes. Stable support for magnificent fruits An important tip for growing this tomato variety is to use a sturdy support structure. The fruits of this plant can be quite heavy and large. Sometimes there are even four fruits on one panicle! To prevent the branches from breaking or the plant from falling over, it is advisable to use a suitable support, cages or even tie them up. This way you can ensure that the tomato plants thrive safely and produce an impressive harvest. Space-saving and productive Due to its narrow growth and the ability to grow as a single shoot, this tomato variety is extremely space-saving. This means that many of these plants can be grown in limited space. It is therefore perfect for balconies, terraces or small vegetable gardens. Despite its compact growth, you can harvest an amazing amount of fruit from this tomato variety. The key to success: simple care and clever fertilization One of the reasons for my success in raising the "Siberian Yellow Heart" was the uncomplicated care. This variety is easy to grow. However, I made sure it received enough nutrients by using sheep's wool and crushed eggshells as natural fertilizer. Later in the season I added organic liquid fertilizer to ensure my plants were getting everything they needed. The fruit and the taste In the fascinating world of tomato varieties, there are some that stand out for their extraordinary appearance and even more impressive taste. One such variety is the "Siberian Yellow Heart". Welcome, Siberian Yellow Heart The Siberian Yellow Heart tomato is undoubtedly one of the most unusual varieties the tomato world has to offer. Its fruits are heart-shaped and shine a bright orange when fully ripe. This color alone makes them an asset to any garden, but it's their flavor that really stands out. A fruity delight The taste of the Siberian Yellow Heart tomato is extremely fruity. With every bite a great aroma unfolds that delights the palate. The tomato has a firm bite, making it an ideal choice for a variety of culinary applications. Little jelly and a balanced sweet-acid ratio What makes this variety special is the fact that it has very little jelly. This means that their flesh is juicy and firm without losing any flavor. A balanced sweet and sour ratio gives the tomato a pleasant depth of flavor. It's not too sweet and not too sour, just right. Hardly any solid skin and a lot of pulp Another outstanding feature of this tomato variety is its delicate skin. It is hardly firm, which makes cutting and preparing the fruit effortless. Mild and yet full of flavor The Siberian Yellow Heart Tomato has a mild flavor, making it an excellent choice for salads, sandwiches, and even fresh salsas. It can be used in many ways without dominating other flavors. Order seeds here

Discover the fascination of hanging tomatoes and be amazed by the variety and taste! Zurück zur Übersicht
- Gelbkragen bei Tomaten | Tomaten! Vielfalt erleben
Zurück zu Tomatopedia Zurück zu Bilddiagnose yellow collar Yellow collar in tomato fruit refers to a conspicuous yellow border or collar that forms around the fruit. This phenomenon occurs when the area of the tomato fruit closest to the plant shows a yellowish discoloration while the rest of the fruit is normally colored.
- Was bedeutet "vergeilt" bei Tomatenpflanzen? | Tomaten! Vielfalt erleben
What does rotting mean on tomato plants?

- Was bedeutet veredelt bei Tomatenpflanzen? | Tomaten! Vielfalt erleben
"Veredelte Tomatenpflanzen bieten zahlreiche Vorteile. Zurück zur Übersicht What is meant by old varieties/"Heirloom"? If you graft a seed-stable tomato onto a hybrid tomato, the seeds obtained from the fruit of this grafted plant are usually no longer seed-stable. This is because hybrid varieties are created by crossing two different parent lines, which leads to genetic diversity. The offspring of these hybrid varieties can therefore be genetically different and not have the stable characteristics of the original seed-stable tomato. Using seed from grafted plants is not advisable, as the plants and fruit that grow from them do not have the same characteristics as the original plants purchased.

When is the best time to start sowing and what kind of soil do you use? Tomato keeper in VEN: Guardian of diversity and tradition The role of a tomato keeper in the VEN: Guardian of biodiversity" In the Association for the Preservation of Crops (VEN), the tomato conservationist plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting the biodiversity of tomato varieties. Their tasks go far beyond simply planting and caring for tomatoes. As a guardian of biodiversity, it has an important mission. Collection and preservation: One of the main tasks of a tomato keeper is the collection of different types of tomatoes, especially old and rare varieties. This diversity is carefully preserved to ensure it is not lost. Cultivation and propagation: The preserver takes care of growing the collected tomato varieties and collecting their seeds. Care is taken to maintain variety purity to ensure that the varieties remain stable over time. Documentation and information: Tomato keepers keep detailed records of the characteristics, flavor and origin of each tomato variety collected. This information is invaluable to other gardeners and researchers interested in biodiversity conservation. Dissemination and education: An important role is to pass on knowledge about tomato varieties and their conservation to others. This can take the form of workshops, lectures and training to raise awareness of the diversity and value of heirloom tomato varieties. Zurück zur Übersicht Plant health and strengthening Vegetable broths are natural pesticides that can help keep tomato plants healthy. Here are some of the most common vegetable broths and how to use them. Click on the respective broth/manure to find out more! 1. Nettle manure As a spray or as an addition to irrigation water to strengthen and fertilize plants. 2. Field horsetail broth Use as a spray to prevent and treat fungal diseases (e.g. mildew, blight) 3. Garlic broth Use as a spray against fungal diseases and to repel pests such as aphids and whiteflies. 4. Onion skin broth As a spray against fungal diseases and for general plant strengthening (see below). 6. Chamomile tea Use undiluted as a spray against fungal diseases and to promote seed germination. These herbal decoctions are a simple and effective way to keep tomato plants healthy and protected against diseases and pests. Please ensure that the decoctions are applied regularly and that the plants are monitored to be able to react to early problems. Use the different broths alternately to avoid overloading the plants and to provide them with a wide range of nutrients and protective substances. Do not mix herbal broths directly together, but use them separately at certain intervals. For example, you could use onion peel broth one week and nettle broth the next week. Pay attention to how your plants react to the different solutions. If they show signs of stress or over-fertilization, adjust the application accordingly. Nettle Stinging nettles (Urtica dioica) are often considered a weed, but their use as a natural fertilizer and pesticide in gardening has proven extremely beneficial. For tomato plants in particular, nettle manure (a fermented extract of nettles) can promote plant health and increase yields. Benefits of nettle manure Nutrient supply Nettles are rich in essential nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium. These nutrients promote the growth and development of tomato plants and improve fruit formation. Strengthening plant growth By supplying plants with important nutrients, nettle manure strengthens plant growth and increases resistance to diseases and pests. Soil improvement Regular use of nettle manure can improve soil structure, increase microbial activity and promote the soil's water retention capacity. Natural pest control Nettle manure can repel pests such as aphids and spider mites. Its use reduces the need for chemical pesticides and promotes a healthy ecosystem in the garden. Production of nettle manure Making nettle manure is easy and requires only a few ingredients: Fresh nettles Water A large container Collecting: Pick fresh nettles (preferably before flowering). Chopping: Roughly chop the nettles. Mixing: Put the nettles in a large container and fill it with water. Use a mixing ratio of about 1 kilogram of nettles to 10 liters of water. Fermentation: Allow the mixture to ferment for about 1-2 weeks. Stir daily to encourage the fermentation process. Filtering: Filter the liquid to remove the solids. The remaining liquid is the nettle manure. Application of nettle manure Nettle manure should always be used diluted , as concentrated form can be too strong for the plants. The following table shows the recommended mixing ratios: Using nettle manure is an effective, environmentally friendly way to promote the health and growth of tomato plants. When used correctly, it can improve plant health. Here you can download the PDF on the subject of nettles. PDF Nettle Field horsetail Horsetail, also known as shave grass, is a plant with remarkable properties that is valued not only in herbal medicine but also in horticulture. Particularly in tomato cultivation, horsetail can make an important contribution to the health and vitality of the plants. In this article, we take a look at the benefits of horsetail for tomato plants, the right time for harvesting, and provide a mixing ratio for making a horsetail decoction. The Importance of Horsetail for Tomato Plants Horsetail contains a high concentration of silica, which is extremely beneficial for plants. Silica strengthens the plant cell walls, thereby improving their resistance to diseases and pests. By using horsetail decoction, tomato plants can become more resistant to fungal diseases, such as the dreaded blight. Additionally, silica promotes the growth of stronger plants and supports fruiting. The Right Time to Harvest Horsetail An important aspect of using horsetail in horticulture is the harvesting time. Horsetail should ideally be harvested by the end of June, as this is when the silica content in the plant is at its highest. After June, the silica content decreases, which reduces its effectiveness for plant health. Distinguishing Between Horsetail and Wood Horsetail It is important to distinguish between field horsetail (Equisetum arvense) and wood horsetail (Equisetum sylvaticum), as the two species have different characteristics and uses. Field Horsetail (Equisetum arvense): Prefers dry, sandy soils, fields, and road edges. The shoots are hollow with regular, sharp-edged rings. Used in gardening and herbal medicine, especially for making decoctions to strengthen plants and combat diseases. Contains a high concentration of silica, making it valuable for plant health. Wood Horsetail (Equisetum sylvaticum): Prefers moist, shady locations like forests, marshes, and waterfront areas. The shoots are also hollow, but the rings are less pronounced and not as sharp as those of field horsetail. Does not play a significant role in gardening or herbal medicine like field horsetail. Also contains silica, but in lower concentrations than field horsetail. Both types of horsetail contain silica and have similar properties, but field horsetail is the species most commonly used in gardening and for making decoctions for plants, due to its availability and specific characteristics. When collecting horsetail, it is important to identify the correct species to avoid confusion and achieve the desired results. Making Horsetail Decoction Making horsetail decoction is simple and requires only a few steps: Harvesting: Collect fresh horsetail by the end of June—300 grams of fresh or 30 grams of dried horsetail. Chopping: Cut the horsetail into small pieces to increase the surface area. Soaking: Place the chopped horsetail in a large pot and cover it with 2 liters of water (horsetail to water ratio), allowing it to soak for 24 hours. Simmering: Bring the water to a boil and let the horsetail simmer for about 30 minutes. Straining: Strain the liquid through a fine sieve or cloth to remove solid particles. Storage: Pour the liquid into clean bottles or containers and store it in a cool, dark place. Applying Horsetail Decoction Horsetail decoction can be used both as a foliar spray and as a soil treatment. Foliar Spray: Spray the decoction evenly on the leaves, making sure to wet both the top and bottom sides of the leaves. Soil Treatment: Pour the decoction directly around the base of the tomato plants to reach the roots. For preventive measures, an application every two weeks is sufficient, while for acute problems, a weekly application is recommended. For general plant strengthening, the decoction can be applied monthly. Here is a table with the mixing ratio of horsetail decoction to water for optimal application: 1:10 (1 part decoction to 10 parts water)For general plant care and prevention 1:5 (1 part decoction to 5 parts water)For more serious fungal problems or acute issues This table ensures proper dilution for optimal effectiveness in promoting plant health. Horsetail is a natural and effective way to promote the health and vitality of tomato plants. With its rich source of silica, it strengthens the plants and helps to ward off diseases. However, you should make sure to harvest at the right time by the end of June to benefit from the full effectiveness. By regularly using horsetail broth, you can keep your tomato plants healthy and productive without the use of chemicals. Here you can download the PDF on the subject of field horsetail. PDF Field Horsetail Garlic Garlic is not only an essential spice in the kitchen, but it is also an effective way to promote the health of your tomato plants in the garden. From repelling pests to boosting the immune system, garlic offers a variety of benefits for tomatoes. Natural pest control Garlic is known for its repelling properties against a variety of pests that can attack tomatoes. The sulfur compounds it contains act as natural insecticides and can keep pests such as aphids, whiteflies and caterpillars away. Garlic is also effective against fungal diseases such as mildew and brown rot. Strengthening the immune system The antioxidants and sulfur compounds contained in garlic strengthen the immune defenses of tomato plants. They help the plants to better fight diseases and stress, resulting in healthier and more resilient tomatoes. Promoting growth Garlic contains natural growth promoters that can stimulate root growth. Strong and healthy roots are crucial for nutrient absorption and growth of the entire plant. Using garlic can help support the growth of tomato plants. Making the garlic broth An easy way to reap the benefits of garlic is to make a garlic broth that is applied as an undiluted spray. Ingredients: 10 garlic cloves or 100 grams of garlic cloves 1 litre of water Spray bottle Directions: Peel the garlic cloves and chop coarsely. Put the crushed garlic cloves in 1 liter of water and let the mixture stand overnight. The next day, strain the mixture to remove any solid particles. Pour the garlic broth into a spray bottle. Application Spray the garlic broth undiluted onto the leaves and soil around the tomato plants (especially the undersides of the leaves, where pests like to hide). Repeat the application every 1-2 weeks or after rainfall. With this simple but effective method, you can protect your tomato plants naturally and promote their growth without having to resort to chemicals. Here you can download the PDF on the subject of garlic. PDF Garlic Onion Onion Skin Decoction is a versatile, natural remedy that many gardeners use to promote the health and growth of their plants. In particular, tomato plants can benefit from the ingredients and properties of onion skin decoction. Here are some key points and benefits of using onion skin decoction in tomato cultivation. Benefits of Onion Skin Decoction for Tomato Plants Nutrient-Rich Decoction Onion skins contain important nutrients such as sulfur, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. These minerals are essential for plant growth and contribute to the overall health of tomato plants. Natural Fertilizer The nutrients in onion skin decoction act as a natural fertilizer. Zurück zu Tomatopedia Zurück zu Bilddiagnose powdery mildew Tomato plants are very popular among gardeners around the world, but they are also susceptible to various diseases. One of the most common and annoying is powdery mildew, which is caused by fungi of the genus Oidium. This disease can severely affect the growth and yield of plants if not detected and treated in time. Causes of Powdery Mildew in Tomato Plants Powdery mildew is a common fungal disease that can affect tomato plants. Here are the most common causes: High humidity The fungus thrives particularly well in high humidity, which promotes the spread of spores. Warm weather Warm temperatures, especially with high humidity, create ideal conditions for the fungus. Poor air circulation The fungus can spread quickly in closely spaced plants or poorly ventilated greenhouses. Infected plant remains Fungal spores can overwinter on infected plant remains and become active again the following year. overhead irrigation If the leaves get wet during watering, this promotes the spread of mildew. Measures to Control Powdery Mildew in Tomatoes To combat powdery mildew, the following measures can be taken: reduce humidity Improve air circulation around plants to reduce humidity. This can be achieved by thinning plants or opening greenhouse windows. adjust water supply Water the plants directly at the ground, making sure the leaves stay dry. Watering in the morning is ideal, as this allows the leaves to dry out during the day. Apply milk-water spray A mixture of one part milk and nine parts water can be sprayed on the affected plants. The lactic acid bacteria help to fight the fungus. Pay attention to floor hygiene Infected plant remains should be removed and disposed of to prevent transmission to the next growing season. monitor temperatures In greenhouses, maintain adequate temperature control to minimize conditions for fungal growth. Heinemann's anniversary An uncomplicated tomato variety for the hobby gardener Heinemann's anniversary exceeded my expectations in every way. This tomato variety is not only extremely productive, but also extremely easy to care for. Even amateur gardeners with little experience will enjoy growing this variety. Gardening has never been so easy and rewarding! Order seeds here The addition The Heinemanns Anniversary tomato variety has always had a good reputation among gardeners, and I couldn't wait to grow it in my own garden. The cultivation of Heinemann's anniversary begins On March 15, 2023 the time had finally come and I planted the seeds of Heinemann's anniversary in pots to grow them early. After a short time the first green seedlings appeared and the anticipation grew. Caring for the plants was very easy: regular watering and sufficient light (in my case special plant light) were all they needed. The Heinmanns anniversary grew best under a roof. The first signs of success On June 20th, just three months after planting the seeds, I could see the first small green tomatoes on the plants. It was amazing how quickly the plants developed and produced fruit. The plants looked healthy and very strong. I only had to support them shortly before they were ripe! The harvest time In mid-August the time had finally come: the first ripe tomatoes were ready to be harvested. The taste of Heinemann's anniversary was simply good. The tomatoes were juicy and had an intense aroma. They were perfect for salads, sauces and of course for fresh tomato sandwiches, but also for drying. A productive and long harvest season In total I had ten Heinemanns Anniversary plants in my garden, and they produced an impressive amount of tomatoes. The plants were so productive that I had plenty of tomatoes and was even able to can some tomatoes. The date of the last harvest will follow soon, It is currently the end of September and the plants are still full of lots of red and green tomatoes. The plant Compact but powerful One of the most striking features of Heinemann's Jubilee is its low stature. With a maximum height of around 70 cm, it is ideal for smaller gardens, terraces, raised beds and balconies. But don't let its size fool you - this plant is extremely powerful. Lush growth and low maintenance requirements Heinemann's Jubilee is characterized by its bushy growth. This means it produces lots of leaves that protect the fruit from the intense sun and reduce evaporation. Another advantage of this bushy growth is that no pruning is necessary. So you don't have to constantly remove side shoots to keep the plant in shape. Strong stems for heavy fruit The stems of Heinemann's Jubilee are so robust that they can easily bear the load of the numerous fruits. I was surprised at how many large tomatoes this small plant can produce. The need to tie or support the plant only arose when the fruits had reached an impressive size. Fruit and taste Of course, the quality of the fruit is crucial. Heinemann's anniversary does not disappoint in this respect. The aroma of Heinemann's anniversary One of the outstanding features of Heinemann's Anniversary is undoubtedly its intense aroma. This is fruity, sweet and has a slightly spicy note that makes every bite a culinary experience. The taste is reminiscent of sun-ripened tomatoes that have ripened on the windowsill all summer long. The texture of the fruit Heinemann's Jubilee is characterized not only by its excellent taste, but also by its perfect texture. The fruits are juicy and firm at the same time, making them an excellent choice for a variety of dishes. Whether you want to use them in salads, make salsa, dry them or simply enjoy them fresh, the texture of these tomatoes will impress you. The size of the fruit The fruits of Heinemann's anniversary are not huge. They are usually medium sized and weigh around 100 to 150 grams each. Harvest maturity and taste Another great feature of Heinemann's Jubilee is that the fruit is perfectly ripe when harvested. This means that they have already developed their full flavor and sweetness when you pick them. You don't have to wait for them to ripen, which is particularly advantageous if you want to enjoy them fresh. Order seeds here
- Warum platzen Tomaten während der Saison auf? | Tomaten! Vielfalt erleben
Tomato cracking is a common problem caused by uneven watering, temperature fluctuations and other factors. With the right preventive measures and careful care, it is possible to harvest healthy, undamaged tomatoes. By using consistent watering, choosing resistant varieties and balanced fertilization, the risk of cracking can be minimized and a successful tomato harvest can be achieved. - Was bedeutet determiniert/indeterminiert in Bezug auf Tomatenpflanzen? | Tomaten! Vielfalt erleben
Back to Overview What do determinate, indeterminate, and semi-determinate mean in tomato plants? Determinate Determinate means that the plant has limited growth. In this case, the plant forms a flower cluster as its terminal shoot and then expands only sideways, not upward. Indeterminate In contrast, “indeterminate” means unlimited growth. An indeterminate plant continuously produces new shoots and can therefore keep growing both upward and outward indefinitely. Semi-determinate These tomato plants have characteristics of both growth types. They initially grow like determinate plants with a limited height, but later continue growing like indeterminate plants and produce fruit over a longer period. They are often a good choice for gardeners who prefer a more compact plant but still want an extended harvest. They can be grown in pots, containers, or in the ground and offer a good balance between size and yield. Back to Overview
- Kälteschaden an Tomatenblättern | Tomaten! Vielfalt erleben
Was tun bei Kälteschäden? To play, press and hold the enter key. To stop, release the enter key. - Woran erkennt man eigentlich eine kreuzungsgefährdete Tomate?| Tomaten! Vielfalt erleben
Solche Blüten nennt man offenblütig.

What types of tomatoes are there? A distinction is made between the following types. Stick tomatoes These are tomatoes that grow indefinitely throughout their growing season and should be supported or tied (see picture below). For a good harvest, stalk tomatoes should be grown with one or two main shoots. The shoots between the leaf axils should be pruned regularly. When enough fruit clusters have formed and the desired height has been reached, the tip of the main shoot can also be removed. This means you can determine the height of the tomato plant yourself and the fruits will ripen more quickly. On this topic there isHERE a video. Bush tomatoes, balcony tomatoes or Dwarf tomatoes These tomatoes are limited in height and are therefore very suitable for growing in containers, pots, small gardens, on the balcony or in raised beds. The Dwarf stands for dwarf. (See image below) Dwarf bush tomatoes Some of them only grow to a height of 20 cm and then stop growing. Due to their height, they can be grown very well in balcony boxes, small pots or raised balcony beds. Ampel tomatoes They are a special type of tomato that is well suited to growing in hanging baskets or hanging baskets. They have a hanging habit and form long, overhanging shoots. This allows them to be grown in containers or hanging baskets without requiring a lot of width space. Growing hanging tomatoes is a good option for people with limited space in the garden or balcony.
