The Iris tomato is a traditional variety from the former GDR and was developed by the breeders Elfriede Illner and Hartmut Arndt at VEG Saatzucht Aschersleben. This tomato is characterized by its high yield and produces numerous beautiful salad tomatoes on one truss .

The fruits of the Iris ripen from a fresh green to an intense red and are particularly juicy. The taste is characteristically sour but still aromatic, with little sweetness . The Iris tomato has little pulp but a lot of jelly, which makes it particularly juicy and refreshing.

The plant stays relatively low and does not need to be pruned , which makes it easier to care for. However, due to the heavy panicles , it is important to support both the plant and the panicles well to ensure stability.

The Iris tomato is an excellent choice for anyone who values old and high-yielding tomato varieties . Not only does it bring a high yield and a refreshingly sour taste to the garden, it also preserves a piece of gardening history from the GDR. This variety is ideal for gardeners who are looking for robust and easy-care tomato plants that also impress with their taste.
