The Ilona tomato is a traditional variety that was bred in the GDR by Christoph Kleinhanns at the VEG "Walter Schneider" in Eisleben. This historic variety is on the Red List of endangered native crops and thus preserves a valuable piece of horticultural history. Further information on the Red List can be foundhere .

The Ilona tomato is characterized by its beautiful red color and distinctive tip . It is a robust variety that can easily be grown with two shoots . Since the Ilona panicles become very heavy , it is advisable to support the plant well to ensure its stability. Regular thinning promotes growth and ensures a consistent harvest.

The Ilona has a convincing taste with its fresh , fruity and mild note, accompanied by a slight sweetness . The aromatic flesh makes it an excellent choice for fresh salads and other dishes.

The Ilona tomato combines excellent taste characteristics with robust growth and easy care. It is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a traditional, tasty and easy-care tomato variety in their garden.
